Part of it is a regular good-quality pen with a few ballpoint replacements for regular writing, on the other end, it records clearly, even from across a meeting room. It takes a slight learning curve on how to use it but once you know how to use it, its very easy. The storage and battery life should be able to last through a full day of lectures. Files transfer quickly over USB. It is a reliable tool for capturing notes without drawing attention.

As for the pen, the silver tip twists to push out the pen part, and comes with 5 ink refills. Pen looks good and works great. As for the sound recorder, just click the top quickly and watch for the blue light to flash twice, and now it's recording sound. Click it once again and watch for the red light to flash twice, and now it has stopped the recording and saved it to its internal memory. You can either plug it into the USB connection on your computer with the USB adaptor cable to access the recorded files, or you can listen to the recordings with the supplied ear buds and controller cable. The sound that it records is pretty clear for a little device like this. Quite impressed. There is also a file stored on the device that you can edit through your computer for things such as whether you want it to continually record, or only have voice activated recording. Or a few other options like the length of time for recording segments that you want before it saves the file and starts a new one during recording. Just remember to save the file somewhere else before editing it, just in case you make a mistake. You can also load music on it and listen to music through the provided ear buds. Great little device.
